Members of Hall County VFWA 1347 gathered for their monthly meeting on September 7 at the United Veterans Club.
Chaplain Lynne Kelly delivered the opening prayer. Senior Vice-President Linda Winget opened the meeting in the presence of 11 members. A thank you note was read by Christa Barker for the nursing scholarship she received.
Several sites are under consideration to purchase books for the Grand Island Public Library. A group presentation will take place during the reception of the books.
Billie Herron arranged for the pizza to be delivered to the Veterans Medical Center for residents and staff on Patriots’ Day.
A report showed that 533 veterans attended the Veterans Day program at the state fair on Labor Day. Bob Briesno and his wife were the grand marshals of the Veterans Day Parade, which also had 48 members of the Patriot Guard, 20 members of the United Veterans Club Honor Guard, as well as other veterans from all over. the state.
The Wreaths Across America fundraising auto show on August 14 at UVC had 52 admissions. Trophies were handed out and food trucks were available for everyone to enjoy the day.
Judging from the State Fair graffiti tree, there will be a decorating contest in September, with winners announced by the end of the month.
Other military recognition bracelets were purchased, some sold at the Vietnam Veterans Meeting in Lincoln in August. Local members have been told they will be able to have a sales table at the 2022 meeting in Kearney.
