The Somerset Patriots, the Double-A branch of the New York Yankees, will host their 18th annual America’s Veterans Day at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday, August 15. The pre-game program will begin at 4 p.m., with doors opening at 3:30 a.m. for the 5:05 p.m. game against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox).

Veterans will receive free tickets to the game with discounted $ 5 tickets in the top box for their guests. Free veteran tickets are available at the stadium box office or by calling 908-252-0700.

The pre-game ceremony is designed to thank the men and women who served in the United States military. The program will honor the memory of John D. LeGates and Frosty Lawson.

LeGates was a Vietnam Veteran in the US Army 111th Engineer Company. He was also chairman of VVA 452 and a lieutenant in the East Orange Police Department. Frank Prevete, President of VVA 452, and LeGates’ brother Frank will speak in his honor.

Lawson was an honorary Navy who “always put veterans first.” He performed for 17 years in the celebrations of America’s Veterans Day. Lawson, who passed away in August 2020, will be represented by his wife Sandy and daughters Morgan and Justine.

There will be a Veterans March to begin the ceremonies led by the Color Guard of Vietnam Veterans America Chapter 233 and the Marine Corps League Basilone Attachment Rifle Squad.

America’s Veterans Day will feature a flyby of WWII planes. The team will also host a 50/50 match for the benefit of the American Vets of Vietnam Chapter 452.
